Encompass Health Corp., formerly known as HealthSouth Corp., will construct a new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital along the west side of the Grand Parkway south of Kingsland Boulevard in Katy.

The hospital will provide rehab services and nursing care to patients with a variety of disabilities, neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions.

Construction on the new facility will start in fall 2018 and is expected to last an entire year. The facility will be located on the 90-acre mixed-use development the Reserve at Grand Parkway and could bring 90 full-time jobs to the Katy area.

“Through customized, comprehensive care, we help patients regain independence and restore function after they have experienced a life-changing illness or injury. We are excited for the opportunity to extend our services to Katy and serve even more patients requiring rehabilitative care,” Frank Brown, president of Encompass Health Southwest said in a press release.

Brown said the Katy area was chosen for the facility after it was identified as a high-growth area that needed rehabilitation service options for residents.

“One of our standard 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospitals can potentially serve approximately 1,000 patients in its first year,” Brown said in an email.
