Following the passage of Hurricane Nicholas, Houston ISD officials announced all in-person and virtual classes will resume on Sept. 15. All HISD buildings, schools, and offices will open on that day as well.

With Tropical Storm Nicholas bearing down on the Houston area, Houston ISD announced all after-school activities and sporting events planned for Sept. 13 have been canceled. Schools and buildings should not be accessed after 5 p.m., the district said in a statement.
In addition, all in-person and virtual classes scheduled for Sept. 14 have been canceled, officials said. All HISD offices and schools will be closed that day as well, and students will not need to make up the missed school day.
The Harris County Flood Control District is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Nicholas, which formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and flooding threats to the Houston area through Sept. 15. Widespread rainfall totals of 4-8 inches are expected, but some areas south of I-10 could see 12 inches or more, which the HCFCD said will likely result in street flooding.
