Texas A&M Forest Service will be conducting prescribed burning at the William Goodrich Jones State Forest Jan. 11 through the end of the month, from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., as weather permits.

According to TFS, prescribed burning is a standard practice, which reduces wildfire hazards, clears downed trees, controls plant diseases and invasive species, improves rangeland and wildlife habitats and restores natural ecosystems.

The prescribed burns will take place in 10-30 acre areas within the areas highlighted in blue below:
While foresters will restrict access to parts of the forest over the next month where the prescribed burning will take place, other areas of the forest will remain open to the public.

TFS officials said that agency fire officials and equipment will be on-site at the forest during prescribed burning operations.
