For the second year Lamar Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Thomas Randle was named the 2017 Region 4 Superintendent of the Year by the Region 4 Education Service Center.

Randle was previously named Region 4 Superintendent of the Year in 2001, when he first came to LCISD.

Region 4 consists of a seven-county area that covers 49 public school districts and 38 charter schools with more than 1.2 million students. The award is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards and has recognized top superintendents for more than 30 years. The counties included in Region 4 are Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Waller counties.

According to a press release from LCISD, “Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality, ability to build effective employee relations, student performance and commitment to public involvement in education.”

“Considering the depth of talent of the school administrators in the Houston area, this is indeed a humbling honor,” Randle said in the release. “I am proud of our accomplishments. And I want to emphasize ‘Our.’ I did not do this alone. Our students, employees, trustees and the community all play a hand in our success.”

Randle has been credited with improving Lamar CISD’s academic excellence, contributing to the district’s accolades, which include a National Blue-Ribbon distinction at three campuses and the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award for Best Large District.

“Dr. Thomas Randle is truly a servant leader, dedicated to providing a proud tradition–a bright future for each and every student, educator, parent and community member in Lamar Consolidated ISD,” said Pam Wells, Region 4 Education Service Center executive director. “Because of his humility, wisdom, innovative spirit, and heart for children and educators, Dr. Randle is very well respected and will be an exceptional representative for Region 4.”

Randle said one of the side effects of the district's success has been rapid growth. LCISD plans to open a new elementary school in the fall and three other schools are in the planning stages.

"People have discovered that Lamar CISD is not a small rural school district," Randle said.

Randle’s nomination places him among Texas’ top educators; his nomination could lead him to the 2017 Texas Superintendent of the Year Award, which will be announced at the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards Convention this fall.
