Cy-Fair ISD administrators made a preliminary report on the 2014-15 budget during the April board of trustees meeting, during which financial goals for the upcoming school year were discussed.

The budget was up for approval by the board during the May 12 meeting, after Community Impact Newspaper went to press.

The new budget includes provisions for a starting teacher salary of $50,000 along with a salary increase of $2,600 for all classroom teachers, equity pay increase to all teacher on hiring schedule steps 2–7 and a salary increase of 3.25 percent of midpoint to all other employees.

"A good portion of our budget plans for achieving the high-level goals for remaining competitive in the marketplace for our compensation plan," said Stuart Snow, associate superintendent for business and finance.

During the May 12 meeting, the board also voted on the district's optional homestead exemption, which gives property owners in the district a 20 percent reduction on property taxes each year.

The district's tax rate will be adopted during the September meeting of the board of trustees. For more information on the 2014–15 budget, visit impactnews.com/cyf.
