Cy-Fair ISD is one step closer to starting construction on several new facilities with the authorization of $165 million in schoolhouse bonds approved by the board in late January.

The bond money will pay for the construction of High School No. 11, the architect fees for High School No. 12 and Elementary School No. 55 and remaining land purchases from the 2007 bond.

High School No. 11 will be on a multi-school site at FM 529 and Westgreen Boulevard in the southwestern portion of the district, but locations for the latter two campuses are still being determined.

"We are expecting to sell these bonds in early February with the closing in early March, prior to the March board meeting, at which time we hope to recommend the approval of the construction contract for High School No. 11," said Stuart Snow, CFISD associate superintendent for business and financial services.

The site, which is being designed by the firm PBK Architects, is being referred to as an educational village, and will house an elementary, middle and high school campus, allowing district students and staff to share resources between buildings.

The bond money for the new school sites was sold from the $807 million 2007 bond, which paid for 13 new schools and 10 school sites.
