Work is beginning on the 580 acres of land within the Bridgeland master-planned community as a part of upcoming neighborhood Hidden Creek. The Howard Hughes Corporation, the company behind the development of Bridgeland, announced March 6 that work will commence on the new neighborhood immediately.



Hidden Creek—which will be the final neighborhood developed in Lakeland Village—is expected to spur interest in home buyers, said Peter Houghton, vice president of master-planned communities with the Howard Hughes Corporation.



"We really think Hidden Creek is the best thing we've done to date," Houghton said. "We've had a lot of time to prepare and plan. We're very excited to finally get going on that with the developer."



The first lots will come online in early June, which is when people can start contracting to build, Houghton said. The first houses will likely be built toward the end of the summer.



The demand for lots in Bridgeland remains intense, with more than 400 people on a waiting list to develop a home in the community. As the largest neighborhood in Bridgeland, Hidden Creek will offer 1,000 homesites. New luxury homes are expected to range in price from $200,000 to more than $1 million.



"Our inventory had gotten so low while we were waiting for a permit and plans to be approved for the new section," Houghton said. "It's very good timing, with more people moving here with the opening of the Grand Parkway, to have this product coming online."



The neighborhood will also feature 142 acres of lakes and waterways, including a 1,000-foot-wide waterway along the south side, which Houghton said is larger than any other lake at Bridgeland. It will also feature the 27-acre Lakeland Village Park, which will include a dog park, basketball pavilion, skateboard park, heated lap pool for year-round use, spray park, playing fields, picnic areas and three miles of canoe trails.
