Cypress Woods High School sophomore Russell Weaver’s Grand Champion Steer sold to Joe Myers Ford for $40,000.[/caption]Unofficially, the premium-sale live auction brought in $400,000. Final totals from the agriculture mechanics and horticulture silent auction, as well as the freezer sale for animals that did not place high enough for the live auction, were not yet available at press time.
Material Express Inc. broke a district record by paying $42,500 for the reserve champion steer exhibited by Cypress Ranch High School student Hailey Brenner.
“I am not sure who was more excited as we waited for the judges to name the champions—the students, parents, Ag teachers, or family and friends,” said Denise Kubecka, lead curriculum coordinator in the career and technical education department. “As one of our judges stated in his comments, this experience not only impacts students in the moment, it is something that plays a huge role in molding them into productive and responsible adults.”
