Senior care facilities popping up to care for aging population in CypressDevelopers in the Cypress area are capitalizing on a growing aging population. Since 2000, the number of residents over the age of 65 in Cy-Fair has just about tripled—from 9,964 to 28,058—as measured by the 2014 U.S. census.

This number is projected to grow by up to 47 percent throughout Harris County by 2030, translating to an additional 300,000 senior residents.

Two new facilities have already opened in 2016; assisted-living and memory care facility Heartis Cypress opened in February on Longenbaugh Road and Apex Oaks at Cypress on Wimbledon Oaks Drive in early September. Three more memory care facilities will open by the end of the year. The Solana Preserve Vintage Park will open in mid-September and Sundance at Towne Lake will open in October on Greenhouse Road, senior care facility officials said.

Alyssa Hatfield, sales manager for The Solana Preserve Vintage Park, said there has been tremendous interest in the facility even with several weeks before it opens.

“Senior living has evolved so much even in the past few years,” she said. “It is being catered to those 55 and up and is turning into a resort-style, maintenance-free way of living. We already have really high traffic.”

Another company making the most of the population trend is Civitas Senior Living. It is planning to open two senior care facilities for the area by September 2017.

Luke Still, a development consultant responsible for developing Civitas’ independent living facility on Huffmeister Road, said Cypress is an exceptional location for senior care centers because of its fast growth.

“When we started looking around at market areas that were good for independent living, Cypress was a market that was incredibly fast-growing in Texas, and Texas is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation,” Still said. “We looked at the general makeup of Cypress, and it fit with what we wanted.”

Still said many employment opportunities in Cypress allow Civitas’ potential tenants to live close to their working families.

Future facilities throughout the area are offering a wide array of amenities and daily programming that make senior living a more luxurious experience.

The Solana Preserve Vintage Park boasts resort-style services and amenities. The complex will feature a cafe and wine bar, movie theater space, fitness center, dog park, a “man cave” area, billiards room and putting green among other features.

Civitas’ independent care facility will feature a large swimming pool, outdoor courtyard area, cinema room, private dining area, salon, fitness center, yoga room and bistro that will be open to the public as well as tenants.

Jay Dempsey, partner at Civitas Senior Living, said these kinds of special services and features allow seniors to have a more active lifestyle that mirrors life outside of a senior facility.

“In an individual living component especially, the goal is to promote healthy independent lifestyles for seniors where they can go about their normal lives,” Dempsey said.
