Nearly 1.7 million new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in 2017, according to the
American Cancer Society. About 116,000 of those will be in the state of Texas.
This Saturday, May 20, Relay for Life of Cy-Fair will meet for the annual fundraising event at the HP Campus, 11445 Compaq Center Road, Houston. The group has set a goal to raise $78,500 for the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life is set to kick off with laps just for survivors and caregivers. The team fundraising event lasts from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and each team is asked to have a member on the path at all times to symbolize the ongoing fight against cancer. Throughout the event, teams can continue fundraising, play games, enjoy entertainment and learn more about advocacy.
After sunset, luminarias will be lit in remembrance or in honor of those affected by cancer. Attendees can dedicate them to loved ones including those lost to cancer, those currently battling cancer and those who have overcome cancer.
The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. To learn more, register for the relay or to donate to the cause, call 713-706-5686 or visit
