A panel of judges from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo selected the top artwork from Cy-Fair ISD students last week. The artwork has been taken to NRG Arena for the next level of judging.
Ten winners in the high school, junior high and elementary divisions were chosen from 613 entries. The artwork will be displayed in the Hayloft Gallery at NRG Center during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, March 7-26.
The rodeo art exhibit will be on display at CFISD’s Instructional Support Center, 10300 Jones Road, Houston, through Monday, Jan. 23. A special gallery show honoring the artists will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
High School winners
- Cypress Lakes High School senior Jeonggyu Lee won Best of Show for his piece, “It’s a Hard Life.”
- Cypress Woods High School senior Joshua Park won a gold medal for his piece, “Woodsman.”
- Cypress Lakes High School freshman Laura Gonzalez won a gold medal for her piece, “The Whimsical Encounter.”
- Cypress Ridge High School sophomore Rachel Chang won a special merit award for her piece, “A Days Work.”
- Cypress Falls High School sophomore Costanza Veronica won a special merit award for her piece, “Two Step.”
- Cypress Lakes High School senior Cesar Ventura won a special merit award for his piece, “Through the Fence.”
Junior high winners
- Anthony Middle School eighth-grade student Argos Lara won Best of Show for his piece, “It’s a Horse.”
- Salyards Middle School eighth-grade student Emma Keiser won a gold medal for her piece, “Southern Beauty.”
Elementary winners
- Hancock Elementary School fifth-grade student Allison Nguyen won Best of Show for her piece, “Painting in the Field.”
- Lee Elementary School fifth grade student Hellen Hoang won a gold medal for her piece, “A Warm Afternoon in Good Ole’ Texas.”
