With all election day precincts reporting, newcomer Byron Sanford will join Montgomery City Council in Place 5, according to Montgomery County election results. Incumbents Carol Langley and T.J. Wilkerson appear to keep their seat in places 1 and 3, respectively.

"Since I had only been on [City Council] for five months, I've got a lot to learn and get busy at," said Langley, who was elected to her first term in November following election delays amid the coronavirus pandemic. "I am excited about getting re-elected to the council."

Langley received 158 votes, totaling 61.72% of the vote, according to Montgomery County results.

Wilkerson, who will also keep his seat on council, received 60.63% of the vote, totaling 154 votes.

"We have a lot to do in the city, a lot of concerns," he said. "Hopefully we can accomplish something that will benefit the entire city. ... We want to listen to the citizens of Montgomery. ... We want to create dialogue with them so they can tell us what's on their mind, what we can do, how we can work together."

According to Montgomery County election results, Sanford received 135 votes, or 54.22% of the vote, and will begin his first term on council.

"We've been here [in Montgomery] nine months, so I'm the new kid on the block. But I do look forward to representing all the constituents in a city that's got every reason to be optimistic," Sanford said. "I look forward to forming [relationships] with every one of them, not only the city but also the county. I'm excited about it."

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
