There is a lot going on in Conroe and Montgomery this week. Residents can attend numerous city and county meetings, school district meetings and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Montgomery Independent School District's two new schools.

1. Ribbon-cutting ceremony for new Montgomery ISD schools on Tuesday

MISD hosts ribbon-cutting ceremony for the district's two new schools, Keenan Elementary School and Oak Hills Junior High School, on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. School tours are scheduled to take place after the ribbon cutting ceremonies. The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at Keenan Elementary.

Over 600 students are enrolled at Keenan Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year, and over 950 students are enrolled at Oak Hills Junior High School for the 2017-18 school year, said Sonja Lopez, Montgomery ISD's assistant superintendent of human resources. 6 p.m. Keenan Elementary School, 19180 Keenan Cut Off, Montgomery. 2. Montgomery City Council meets Tuesday

Montgomery City Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. to discuss several agenda items, including the Montgomery County Emergency Communication District budget for fiscal year 2017-18, the city’s proposed tax rate of $0.4155 per $100 assessed valuation and whether to schedule public hearings to discuss the proposed tax rate. 3. Montgomery County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday

Montgomery County Commissioners Court meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to consider several agenda items, including accepting a grant from K9s4COPs to purchase a narcotics detection dog, ratifying Droigsa contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to add $482,023.56 in funds for beds and on-call guard services, and approving COBAN body-worn and in-car cameras for Montgomery County Constable’s Office across all precincts. 4. Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees meets Tuesday

Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees meets Aug. 8 for a workshop for the fiscal year 2017-18 budget, as well as discuss and vote on the 2017-2018 Student Code of Conduct. 5. Willis ISD Board of Trustees meet Wednesday

6. Conroe City Council meets Wednesday and Thursday

Conroe City Council meets 2 p.m. Aug. 9 and 6 p.m. Aug. 10 for its workshop and action meetings, respectively. Council members discuss various agenda items during this week’s meetings, including the proposed budget for Montgomery County Emergency Communication District, as well as the proposed FY 2017-18 operating and capital improvement project budgets.

A public hearing on the city’s proposed tax rate of $0.4175 per $100 assessed valuation for the FY 2017-18 is scheduled to happen during Thursday’s meeting. 7. Meet the Tigers on Friday

The Conroe High School Tigers host the second annual Tiger Roar kick-off event. During the festivities, community members can meet the new football team, coaches, cheerleaders and band members.
