Updated 11:10 a.m. March 17: Conroe City Council approved an extension to the ordinance March 16 for an indefinite period of time.

Following Montgomery County's declaration of a public health emergency March 12, the city of Conroe has also followed suit, issuing its own declaration.

City Council approved an order March 12 that issues the following:

  • No parade, outdoor festival or other event with an estimated attendance of more than 2,500 people shall be allowed within city limits.

  • Events with more than 250 people cannot be held at public facilities owned or operated by the city.

  • Events with more than 250 people held at private facilities are recommended to be canceled.

  • Nursing homes and senior living facilities should limit public visitation.

The order does not extend to law enforcement, emergency response teams, court operations or schools. The order takes effect midnight March 13 and is effective for one week. City Council members said they will hold a special meeting March 19 at 2 p.m. to consider renewing it.
