WHAT WE REPORTED The Clear Creek ISD board of trustees in July approved a slew of recommended school safety improvements. The most significant recommendation was to hire an additional 15 school liaison officers and an additional 15 student-support counselors, one each for the district’s five high schools and 10 intermediate schools. The district has since hired these employees.

THE LATEST CCISD officials have met with state Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, and state Rep. Greg Bonnen, R- Friendswood, who are supportive of CCISD’s push for legislation that would improve school safety.

The district wants the state to grant an allotment to all Texas school districts of money that could be used only for school safety improvements, said Elaina Polsen, CCISD’s executive director of communications.

CCISD also wants the state to require fewer fire drills to allow for lockdown drills.
