LJ Parkway LJ Parkway[/caption]

1. LJ Parkway extension


Construction to connect LJ Parkway with Commonwealth Boulevard to provide a new route into the master-planned community of Riverstone in Sugar Land started in July. Riverstone Development is leading the project, which is located in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Sugar Land. The project includes the construction of LJ Parkway as a four-lane, curb and gutter roadway from just north of University to just south of Commonwealth boulevards. A single-lane roundabout similar to the one on Lexington Boulevard will connect Commonwealth Boulevard and LJ Parkway north of the Centerpoint easement. The project also includes the addition of sidewalks and landscaping along the new roadway. The new connection and additional access into Riverstone is expected to open up land for possible future developments.

2. Turtle Creek Drive reconstruction


The project to replace waterlines and
to remove and replace the road surface on Turtle Creek Drive from Hilton Head to Mission Valley drives in Missouri City is on schedule for completion in June. The contractor has completed the replacement of the waterlines and is finishing up work on the sanitary sewer lines. The contractor has also started preparing the project for the removal and replacement of the roadway surface. There will be alternate lane closures throughout the duration of the project.

3. Austin Parkway improvements


Construction started in June on improvements to Austin Parkway and Lakefield Boulevard in Sugar Land. The project includes the reconstruction of a total of 2,803 linear feet of 8-inch concrete pavement and the replacement of a total of 3,000 linear feet of 12-inch waterline. A 10-foot-wide concrete trail in the northbound side of Austin Parkway will also be constructed as part of the project. Alternating closures continue along Austin Parkway as part of the road and waterline improvements. Both southbound lanes of Austin Parkway are closed between Autumn Lakes and Commonwealth Boulevard. The northbound lanes are being used for two-way traffic until the southbound lanes are complete. Traffic will then be diverted to the southbound lanes while work is done on the northbound lanes.

4. Vicksburg Boulevard extension


Construction to extend Vicksburg Boulevard from Aldridge Drive to Lake Olympia Parkway in Missouri City is on schedule for completion by January and is about 60 percent complete. All underground utilities have been installed, and the contractor has started paving the roadway. There are no lane closures or detours as a result of the project. The scope of the project includes the construction of a mast arm turn signal and turn-lane improvements at Lake Olympia Parkway, a four-lane boulevard roadway, bicycle lanes in both directions, sidewalks, streetlights and accompanying drainage structures.

5. Texas Parkway widening


Construction on the project to widen Texas Parkway in Missouri City from Cartwright Road to Fort Bend Parkway is still underway. Traffic is flowing through the area and the traffic signals are working properly, however, there is still some road striping work and wheelchair ramp installation that needs to be completed. The project was originally scheduled for completion in June but was delayed until August because of underground utility lines in the project area that needed to be relocated. The project has been delayed further and is now expected to be complete later this fall.

5. Hwy. 90 widening


The widening of Hwy. 90 from just west of Hwy. 6 to just east of the Grand Parkway in Fort Bend County is scheduled to be available for contractor bidding in December. Construction on the widening project is expected to begin a few months after the contractor is awarded the project. The project will widen Hwy. 90 from four to six lanes and also include the construction of two sound walls. Project construction will be completed in five phases.

6. FM 2234 widening


There is no set timeline yet for the widening of FM 2234 from the Fort Bend Parkway to FM 521 in Missouri City. TxDOT issued the contractor a notice to proceed on the project June 15, however, there is a 270-day delay clause on the project. The 270-day delay clause built into the contract ends March 20, and construction is expected to begin sometime thereafter. The 4-mile project will widen FM 2234 from the existing two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided roadway with drainage ditches, a raised median and 12-foot shoulders.

6. Sugar Land Business Park


Work to reconstruct and rehabilitate several streets within the Sugar Land Business Park started in late April. The project calls for reconstructing and repaving areas of Julie Rivers Drive, West Airport Boulevard, Gillingham Lane and Jess Pirtle Boulevard as well as a section of Industrial Boulevard and Emily Court. Some additional locations—including a portion of Reed Road—were added to the project, which extended the timeline for completion by 30-45 days. Alternate lane closures are expected throughout the duration of the project.
