As a result, temporary road closures will begin March 4 at Brooks Street for four days followed by a series of three-day road closures along Hwy. 90.
Three-day closures include Ulrich Street, Main Street, Wood Street, Eldridge Road, Gillingham Lane, Industrial Boulevard, Dairy Ashford Road and a second closure at Brooks Street, according to Union Pacific officials. Union Pacific will announce additional closures once they are scheduled.
Before each crossing closure, Union Pacific installs electronic message boards in advance to allow drivers to plan alternate routes.
"We are also appreciative of the patience of the Sugar Land community during our work and the temporary closures," said Brenda Mainwaring, Union Pacific southern region vice president of public affairs. "We will continue to communicate our project's progress and look to minimize the impact on the drivers in the area."
In addition to laying new track, maintenance and replacement of rail on Union Pacific's existing track between Houston and Stafford is scheduled as part of Phase 2. Union Pacific officials said maintenance is taking place during the night to avoid interfering with new track installation. Dates and duration of the maintenance work have yet to be determined.
