Veterans Day and the beginning of winter holiday celebrations highlight the area's activities this weekend.

Friday, Nov. 11-Klein ISD will host its annual Salute to Veterans and Armed Forces ceremony beginning with a breakfast for veterans and service members at 8 a.m. in the Kleb Intermediate School cafeteria, 7425 Louetta Road, Houston. This year’s keynote speaker is Ron Youngblut, director of operations at Camp Hope, which provides interim housing and support for Wounded Warriors, veterans and families suffering from combat-related PTSD.

Friday, Nov. 11-Twin Creeks Middle School has planned a patriotic celebration from 9:30-11 a.m.in the school’s gymnasium to honor veterans who are school employees, relatives of students and community members who reside in the neighborhoods near the school. Saturday, Nov. 12-Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program invites those ages 50 and older to learn the historic roots of today’s Texas Rangers. Attendees also learn about the lives of six historic Texas Rangers who lived and died in the Grimes County area. The tour includes stops at the cemetery, home sites, other locations around Navasota and a visit with the local sheriff. Transportation is provided from the Cypresswood Golf Club, and the group has lunch planned at the Cow Talk Steakhouse. 8 a.m. (departing). Free, lunch not included.
