Two Cy-Fair restaurants plan to celebrate grand openings this weekend, and a breakfast spot at the Boardwalk at Towne Lake will celebrate a two-year anniversary. Here's a roundup of restaurant news in the Cy-Fair area for the month of August.

PJ's Coffee celebrates grand opening Aug. 4

The New Orleans-based coffee shop has been open since July 23 at 11930 Barker Cypress Road, Ste. 800, Cypress, but a grand opening is set for this weekend. The shop serves house-roasted gourmet coffee, organic teas, cold-brew iced coffee that is brewed daily, blended drinks and pastries.

The grand opening event includes a live DJ, face painting, food sampling, a prize wheel and a free 12-ounce cup of hot or cold coffee for each attendee. The event, which will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., will also include a raffle to win free coffee for one month.


Kolache Bar celebrates grand opening on Fry Road

A second grand opening takes place this weekend at The Kolache Bar, which opened in July at 8350 Fry Road, Cypress.

The business offers doughnuts, hot and iced lattes, croissant sandwiches and a variety of gourmet kolaches, including chicken enchilada, Philly cheesesteak and The Bomber—a house special made with ground sausage and gravy mixed with bacon and jalapenos.

The Aug. 4 grand opening event runs from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. and will include face painting, free mimosas and $2.99 per dozen glazed doughnut specials.


Breakfast Brunch Cafe celebrates two-year anniversary

Run by the mother-and-son duo of Anthony and Doris Obodoechina, Breakfast Brunch Cafe celebrates two years at the Boardwalk at Towne Lake on Saturday, 9955 Barker Cypress Road, Ste. 110, Cypress.

The restaurant will celebrate with a community open house benefiting Cy-Hope from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Aug. 4. Tickets, which cost $27 for adults and $14 for children, cover a two-course buffet and dessert, beverages and a gift. 281-246-1066.

Zero Degrees aims for Aug. 11 opening

Zero Degrees is aiming to open a new location Aug. 11 at 11510 Barker Cypress Road, Ste. 100, Cypress. The Asian and Hispanic fast-food chain specializes in drinks and snacks such as Thai tea, mangonadas and hot Cheeto elote.

The Egg and I to close FM 1960 location

The Egg and I location at 12426 FM 1960, Houston, is expected to close Aug. 19. Store officials said the owner of the property did not file a new lease. The Egg and I serves omelettes, scrambles, skillets, hashes and seasonal specials for breakfast and brunch.
