Novel River Oaks, an eight-story mixed-use project bringing 330 high-end housing units and 14,000 square feet of retail, broke ground in March.

Built on the former location of The Georgian, a longstanding apartment community at Willowick Road and Westheimer Road, the project will focus on providing walkable and neighborhood-friendly retail, according to a news release.

“Taking into account the history of this property, we plan to create a residential experience that bridges a rich past with modern conveniences, and engages residents of the greater community, not only those who live on-site,” said Michael Blackwell, managing director for Crescent Communities, in the release.

The residential units will include a section of two-story townhomes, a health club, pet park, rooftop pool deck, and a dining terrace with views of the Houston skyline.

Ziegler Cooper Architects oversaw the design and interiors, and Hoar Construction is supervising the project, slated to finish in 2020.

Novel is one of dozens of projects by Crescent Communities, which has 6,000 multifamily units under construction nationally.
