Bike rodeo, cornhole take center stage on Gilbert weekend

Do you like riding bikes? How about cornhole? This could be your week in Gilbert.

Aug. 10
Learn to be safe on your bike

The town’s Police, Fire & Rescue and Transportation departments are among the groups hosting the Gilbert Community Bike Safety Rodeo at the events pavilion inside SanTan Village Mall, between Forever 21 and Harkins Theatres. Nearby parking will be available on the south side of Harkins. Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome to the event, which also is hosted by the mall, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Bike Masters and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The event includes bike courses where riders can practice the rules of the road; safety tips from police and firefighters; raffle prizes;
food vendors; helmet fitting station; bike fitting; a bike safety inspection station; common bike maintenance issues.

Aug. 10
Aim to be cornhole champ

Join East Valley Cornhole as it hosts its third summer cornhole tournament. The competition will feature a round robin followed by double-elimination rounds. 4-10 p.m. $50 (per team). Uncle Bear’s Brewery, Taproom and Yard, 612 E. Germann Road, Gilbert. 480-720-8270.
