4 recent community highlights in The Woodlands from nonprofits and local business


Interfaith of the Woodlands held a fundraiser and Tall Timbers District Boy Scouts presented an award to Lone Star College System in February.

The sixth annual Women Empowering Women Luncheon was held Feb. 1 at The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center and presented by CHI St. Luke’s Health, raising $325,000 for Interfaith Community Clinic. The nonprofit organization provides health services to the uninsured in Montgomery County.

Tall Timbers District Boy Scouts presented the 2018 Spirit of Scouting Award to the Lone Star College System on Feb. 7 for the college’s efforts in making facilities and equipment available at the Lone Star College-Montgomery campus to the Tall Timbers District for more than 15 years. Floor Coverings International of Katy & The Woodlands announced it has earned the home service industry’s Angie’s List Super Service Award. This award honors service professionals who have maintained exceptional service ratings and reviews on Angie’s List in 2018. Owner John Landsbaum and his business partner, Vijay Bhaskaran, purchased two existing Floor Coverings International franchises in The Woodlands and Katy and launched with a staff of five and five Mobile Flooring Showrooms last summer.

Student artwork chosen as part of the The Woodlands Arts Council’s 2019 Student Art Scholarship Competition will be exhibited at Market Street in mid-March. A panel of professors and professional artists from the local and Greater Houston area will serve as jurors for the annual competition.
