1. Attend a play by a local theater company

2. Visit a special monthlong February exhibit

Photographer, artist and author Art Rothenberg will be displaying his photography art gallery “Capturing Life Thru The Lens” on the second floor alcove of the Barbara Bush Library throughout the month of February. The gallery offers unique perspectives of Houston, focusing on people, culture, architecture and nature, Rothenberg said. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (Feb. 1), 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (Feb. 2). Free. 4. See Josh Abbott in concert

5. Enter a brisket cookoff at Beach Bumsbar

Beach Bumsbar hosts its annual brisket cookoff Feb. 3. Briskets can be cooked at home or on-site and will be served to the public. Judging will take place from 2:30-4 p.m., and the winner will receive a $100 cash prize, while the second place entry will receive a $50 bar tab. 1 p.m. Free (no entry fee).
