1. Grab blankets and stargaze at the first meteor shower of 2019, Jan. 3
The first meteor shower of this year will peak from the night of Jan. 3 to the early morning hours of Jan. 4.
During perfect conditions, anywhere from 60 to more than 100 meteors per hour can be seen during the peak, according to a news release from Accuweather Global Weather Center.
The peak occurs during the new moon, which allows for a darker sky and better viewing.
2. Take a senior adult trip to Houston Cat Club's 66th Annual Charity Cat Show, Jan. 5
The Harris County Precinct 4 Senior Adult Program is providing transportation to the Houston Cat Club's annual charity show. The show features regional and national breed judging, an agility contest, pet supply sales and a booth where guests can learn about the origins and unique traits of more than 40 show breeds. 10 a.m. Tickets sold at door, $9.99 for adults and $8 for those 65 years and older.
