A Martin Luther King Jr. tribute and 5 other things to do this weekend in and near Spring and Klein, Jan. 12-14


Texas Parks and Wildlife Department plans to stock parks with rainbow trout, and Kinsmen Lutheran Church holds a children’s workshop and concert this weekend in Spring and Klein. Events are also planned at a Precinct 4 park within a short driving distance of Spring and Klein, including live music and volunteer opportunities.

  1. Texas Parks and Wildlife to stock rainbow trout at area parks, Jan. 12

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will deliver more than 1,000 rainbow trout to each of the following Precinct 4 parks:

There is a daily bag limit of five trout per angler and no minimum length limit. A valid Texas fishing license is required with a freshwater stamp endorsement to participate in fishing.  www.hcp4.net/community/parks/fishing

2. Volunteer at a Harris County Precinct 4 park, Jan. 13

Jesse H. Jones Park staff and volunteers hold an open forum highlighting volunteer needs and opportunities at the park. These opportunities include leading nature and historical tours, presenting programs, as well as assisting with outreach presentations and park maintenance. 9-11 a.m. Free. Jesse H. 3. Visit the Barbara Bush Library Friends Book Fair, Jan. 13

The Barbara Bush Library Friends—a nonprofit group supporting the Barbara Bush Library—holds a book fair throughout the day at the Barnes and Noble on FM 1960. The fair will feature activities including bookmark crafting, a Paddington Bear story time and a puppet show by Adventureland Puppets. There are also books available for purchase, which can be donated to the library. The library sustained flood damage during Hurricane Harvey and is currently under construction. 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Free (books can be purchased). 4. Kids can enjoy a winter camp workshop and concert, Feb. 13

Kinsmen Lutheran Church holds a creative workshop for children during the day and a concert in the evening. During the creative workshop, from 1-5:45 p.m., children can sing and create music with musician James Hersch. A performance by Hersch takes place later in the evening at 7 p.m. Free. 5. Martin Luther King Jr. program planned, Feb. 13

Cypress Creek Christian Community Center hosts its 33rd annual event for Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday with performances featuring a Klein ISD high school band and a dance ensemble. The event this year commemorates the 50th anniversary of King’s death in April. 6. Enjoy acoustic music at a nature center, Jan. 14

The Second Sunday Pickers perform acoustic music in the nature center at Jesse H. Jones Park, including country, bluegrass, folk, gospel, Cajun and blues music.
