2019 CAMP GUIDE: 19 upcoming summer camps in the Katy area


From art to cooking to language, various locations in the Katy area are offering camps for children to explore a new subject or new skill this year. This is a noncomprehensive list of summer camps.

American Kids Athletics
Sports Camp

At its 10,000-square-foot facility with more than 2 acres of outdoor play area, AKA Sports Camp provides an fun atmosphere where children can participate in a variety of sports, including baseball, football, volleyball and soccer. Bonjour & Bienvenue French Cultural Center

The center offers a camp for children interested in learning about French culture and traditions. Activities include language lessons, cooking, arts and crafts as well as coding. Ages 6-18. June 24-Aug. 9. $265-$305 (full day). $165-$195 (half day).

Camp La Llanada

Camp La Llanada, a full-immersion Spanish summer camp, offers day camps that include swimming, archery, soccer and other activities that focus on building confidence and Spanish excellence. The camp also has a sleepaway camp at 346 Prairie Grove Road in Valley View near Dallas. Ages 4-12. Jun 10-July 19 (weekly). Price TBD.

Camp West provides hands-on science activities, arts and crafts, outdoor activities and lake time. The campsite includes a rock wall and two ball fields Other activities include worship, skits and performances. Grades K-eight. June 10-28, July 8-19 (weekly). $275 with extra fees for early drop-off and late pickup. Sibling and early bird discounts available.

The educational facility offers academic camps covering math, science, computer software and SAT preparation. These academic camp sessions run for three or four weeks. Other camps, such as basketball, ice skating, cooking and robotics, span one week. Ages 18 months-16 years.

The local gym will offer summer camps that include a daily fitness routine, games such as dodgeball, sports training and medicine ball training. Ages 5-12. May 27-Aug. 21 (weekly). $139 (half day). $199 (full day).

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy

The learning-based child care center will offer  summer camps. Attendees will go on two field trips per week and participate in activities with science, arts and crafts, and mathematics. Ages 5-12. May 24-Aug. 14 (weekly). $230. Seven locations in the Katy-area.

LISTO Translation Services

The translation and education center will offer a variety of half-day camps throughout the summer to help children master Spanish while learning other skills, such as art. Lessons in science and history are also incorporated. Ages 3-12. Dates, times and prices vary by camp.

Through hands-on experimentation, children will explore the wonders of science. Topics include geology, engineering, health and the environment. Ages 3-12. Dates TBD. Price TBD.

University of Houston-Downtown

The university hosts one- and two-week summer camps in STEM, language, finance, test prep and writing at Faith West Academy. High school credit courses are also offered. Camp locations are also available throughout Greater Houston. Ages 6-17. June 3-July 12. Prices vary based on classes.
