Help better the community in a variety of ways this holiday season—and year-round—at one of these local organizations. From helping families in need to caring for animals, this guide includes several volunteer opportunities. This list is not comprehensive.
Montgomery County Animal Shelter
The shelter provides temporary housing for dogs and cats in Montgomery County. Volunteers can walk dogs, socialize with cats, bathe dogs and clean the facility.
Volunteer requirements: Orientation

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County
Volunteers can register to deliver meals to Montgomery County’s homebound residents Monday-Friday or for Saturday programs, Breakfast Bag or AniMeals.
Volunteer requirements: Orientation and background checks are required for weekday programs, applications must be submitted for Saturday programs, and delivery drivers must be 18.

Montgomery County Food Bank
The bank provides food for individuals and families in Montgomery County. Volunteers sort food, pack backpacks and sort boxes for seniors.
Volunteer requirements: Individuals must wear close-toed shoes in the warehouse. Younger volunteers must be at least 7 years old and with an adult.

Montgomery County Women’s Center
The center provides crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, legal services and shelter for survivors of domestic violence. Volunteers sort donations, organize storage, answer phones or donate their skills.
Volunteer requirements: Completing an online application, background check and one-day training are required. Individuals must be at least 18 years old.

CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County
The agency has court-appointed advocates who provide emotional and legal support for children in the foster care system. Volunteers can become court-appointed advocates or help out in the office.

Volunteer requirements: Court-appointed advocates must complete an online application, background check, fingerprint screening and training for advocates; office volunteers must apply online.
