Tax Free Weekend is Aug. 10-12. Local malls are extending hours, offering discounts and hosting events.

One weekend each year, state law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes. Aug. 10-12, shoppers can save about $8 on every $100 they spend, according to the Texas comptroller. Several Central Texas malls and outlets are extending their hours, hosting special events and giving away prizes during tax-free weekend.

Round Rock Premium Outlets and Steel City Pops offer popsicles on Aug. 10 from 4-8 p.m. The center also hosts a “Fancy Nancy”-themed event on Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. near the Disney Outlet store, with arts and crafts, face painting, a glitter bar and a balloon artist. The outlet mall offers "Bring Back the Music," a musical performance featuring the Austin Party Band and Tje Austin on Aug. 12 from 1-4 p.m. near the Polo Ralph Lauren store.
