Here is how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day in South Austin


According to a recent survey from same-day grocery delivery service Instacart, Austin is the third most romantic city in the United States. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, businesses across South Austin are holding events where guests can enjoy the holiday with a significant other or friend. Here is how to celebrate.

Enjoy Valentine’s Day Cuban-style with The Latin Dukes

Austin-based band The Latin Dukes will play an eclectic blend of Latin music, drawing influence from Madrid to Havana and beyond. A special menu will be available all day and prizes will be given throughout the night. Reservations are encouraged. The event is free to attend.

Hate Valentine’s Day? Celebrate at Pluckers

Pluckers will host a special edition of its Wednesday night trivia with an “Anti-Valentine’s Day” theme. Guests can test their trivia knowledge, win prizes, watch sports and eat wings. Drink and food specials will also be available. Free to play.

Personalize you own botanical perfume

Guests will create their own personalized botanical perfume. Perfumer Krista Lacey of Roux St. James will cover methods of perfumery and guide guests through the 18-24 oils to work with in order to create a custom scent. Along with a customized bottle of perfume, visitors will also receive the recipe card to recreate the scent in the future. All tools, materials and oils will be provided. Chocolate and champagne are included. $75.

Catch a movie at the drive-in

Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In will host a “Valentine’s Nights” series with popcorn and a movie under the stars. The evening’s screenings include “The Princess Bride”, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Sixteen Candles.” $7-$35.

Grab a four-course meal at Cane Rosso

Chef Josh Healy is preparing a four-course dinner with a number of special dishes created for the holiday. This special menu will only be available on Valentine’s Day. An exclusive drink, the Nebulous, will also be featured, which is a mix of Belvedere berry vodka, creme de cassis, lemon juice, strawberries and blueberries marinated in Gran Marnier and sparkling wine, finished with dry ice. Reservations are available. $70 per couple.

Dine at Soursop

Food truck Soursop will roll out a special Valentine’s Day menu accompanied by St. Elmo’s Brewing Co.’s lineup of beers. Available for pre-order only, the menu for two includes surprise canapés, waterfall ribeye, honey-butter mashed Japanese yams, grilled broccoli with miso vinaigrette and yuzu kosho, and a red velvet butter cake. $100 per couple.

Enjoy wine and music at The Austin Winery

DJ Domingo Anthony will spin until midnight for this special event. All glasses and bottles of the house-made ‘Friends with Benefits’ blend will be 25 percent off. Food specials will be available. Free entry.

Celebrate with dinner and bourbon

Treaty Oak Brewing and Distilling invites guests to an exclusive five-course meal with signature cocktail and beer pairings. Couples will also go home with a bottle of the limited release house-made LOVE bourbon. Ticket includes dinner and 750 milliliter bottle of bourbon. $175 per couple.

Play and sip at Spokesman

Wednesday nights are vino, vinyl and video game night at the coffee and beer bar. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the shop will release a new coffee and a Chronicles of Riddick themed drink. A video game tournament will take place that evening along with a bring your own vinyl challenge that encourages guests to bring music that pairs well with the game of that week. Carafes of draft wine will be on special for $24.
