San Marcos council members approved funding for two city projects Tuesday, including a multiuse path and a water main replacement.

1. Hopkins Street multiuse path

Using some of the $2 million in Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization funds awarded in 2014, San Marcos City Council approved spending $416,949 on designing a multiuse path along Hopkins Street between CM Allen Parkway and Thorpe Lane.

The project also includes a pedestrian crossing on Hopkins from City Hall to the San Marcos Public Library and on Hopkins across Riverside Drive.

Construction should begin in late 2020.

2. McKie and Lee streets water main replacement

Council approved a $588,135 construction contract for the replacement of a water main on McKie and Lee streets. The project involves replacing undersized water mains on McKie from Cheatham Street to Love Street, on Lee from Guadalupe Street to McKie and on Love 208 feet from McKie.

Construction is expected to begin in early January. Motorists can expect localized lane closures near construction.
