Whether it is an early Mardi Gras celebration or Valentine’s Day dinner, here are a few events happening in San Marcos, Buda and Kyle this weekend.


Twin Liquors Valentine’s Social

“The Demise of Black-Owned Business During Desegregation in San Marcos”

As part of Black History Month, the Dunbar Heritage Association hosts Elvin Holt, Director of the Calaboose African American Museum, to talk about how local black business owners were affected by desegregation in San Marcos. “The Witness: From The Balcony of Room 306”

Kyle Public Library invites locals to view the National Civil Rights Museum’s The Witness: “From The Balcony of Room 306.” The 32-minute film describes the weeks and days leading up to King’s return in 1968 to assist sanitation workers striking in Memphis, Tennessee. Mistick Krewe of Okeanos Parade

No need to travel to New Orleans to experience Mardi Gras. Mistick Krewe of Okeanos puts on a family Mardi Gras parade through the streets of San Marcos. This is year’s theme is “Good Neighbors.” Free. Noon. Start: Grace Lutheran Church, 1250 Belvin St., San Marcos. End: The Price Center, 222 W. San Antonio St., San Marcos. 512-396-9422.

Random Acts of Kindness Challenge Event

In the name of love, Jayna Love Homes host a random acts of kindness challenge. Teams will receive a list of kindness acts to accomplish. The first 20 team to register will receive $25. Free. 5-9 p.m. Nate’s, 306 S. Main St., Ste. 101. Buda. 512-217-1875.
