Dr. Edward Kim is the emergency room medical director at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center. He answered this Q&A via email for Community Impact Newspaper.
CI: Why did you enter the medical profession?
EK: I felt called to enter a service profession; I found that I had a knack for science; and I also really enjoyed problem-solving. It was a perfect fit for me.
CI: What is something you want all patients visiting the ER to know?
EK: All of us sincerely want to provide superior, expedient care for every single patient in every situation. The ER is unpredictable and challenging, and we are constantly exploring ways to improve our care. We will never stop trying to do our best for our patients.
CI: What are some challenges you face in your role?
EK: Time! As a physician, I wish that I could do four things at once to be more efficient for my patients. In my role as medical director, I am constantly looking for ways to improve our processes. If I could just figure out how to stop time, we would be all set.
