Potential multistory commercial building and more news from Leander’s zoning meeting, March 8

The Leander Planning and Zoning Commission considered several items at its meeting Thursday, March 8.

Recommendations from the commissioners will go to Leander City Council for approval at a later date.

CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

The P&Z Commission approved a short-form final plat for a new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on approximately 5.5 acres at 17680 Ronald Reagan Blvd.

The Mormon church is expected to break ground for the new facility on Ronald Reagan Boulevard later this month, according to a church spokesperson.

LEANDER BUSINESS CENTER

Commissioners recommended approval of a special-use permit for office warehouse uses on approximately 10.3 acres of developed land at 80 Mockingbird Hill. The permit could have a 10-year time limit with the option to request renewal if approved by the City Council.

The property is intended to temporarily be designated for office warehouse use, to be renovated later for local office, commercial or retail uses, according to meeting documents.

COMMONS AT KITTIE HILL

The commission recommended approval of the rezoning of around 8.5 acres located at 2701 CR 274 from single-family rural and single-family suburban to local commercial zoning.

“I believe the best use of this property would include significant multi-story office or mixed retail/office buildings and/or smaller office or mixed retail/office buildings and potential parking structures,” wrote property owner Michael McClendon in a letter to the city’s planning department, included in the meeting agenda packet.
