Where to watch college football kick off in the Austin-area


The college football season kicks off this Saturday, Sept. 1 for several programs here in Central Texas. The University of Texas at Austin visits the University of Maryland, and Texas State University travels to New Jersey to take on Rutgers University for their respective opening games. Both games kick off at 11 a.m. Texas A&M University and Baylor University both start their seasons this week as well.

Here is a noncomprehensive list of college football watch parties, radio shows and more in the Austin-area this weekend.

The University of Texas at Austin vs. University of Maryland at Pluckers (Research Boulevard location)

Pluckers is hosting 104.9 FM The Horn at its Research Boulevard location for the radio station’s official watch game party. The broadcast begins approximately four hours before kickoff and prizes will be given away to fans in attendance.

Multiple college football games at COVER 2 and COVER 3

Local sports bar and restaurant chain COVER 3 and spin off COVER 2 will air college kickoff weekend at all locations. The restaurants feature televisions displayed throughout, local draught beer selections and American-cuisine menus.

The University of Texas at Austin vs. University of Maryland at Haymaker

Haymaker is opening early for UT Austin’s morning kickoff Saturday. The bar and restaurant will feature several drink specials.

University of Alabama vs. University of Louisville at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden and Dogwood at the Domain

The Austin Crimson Tide Club hosts an Alabama vs. Louisville watch party at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on West Sixth Street and at The Dogwood at Domain Northside. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Live Oak Brewing Co. will project Saturday’s UT Austin game on its taproom wall. The brewery opens 30 minutes prior to Saturday’s 11 a.m. kickoff and attendees can hang around after the game to watch live music.

The University of Texas at Austin vs. University of Maryland at Red’s Porch Quarry Lake

Red’s Porch Quarry Lake hosts a Texas Longhorns kickoff party Sept. 1 for the UT vs. Maryland game. The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. and kickoff is at 11 a.m.
