Get tipsy by the tree at these five Central Austin holiday-themed bars


From limited-time holiday bar pop-ups to the year-round cheer at Crestview spot Lala’s Little Nugget, these five bars in Central Austin are here to help those looking to get into the holiday spirit.

Who-Tel Bar at the W Austin

Now through Dec. 28

The downtown hotel’s secret bar has been transformed with decor inspired by the classic Dr. Seuss book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

The drink menu includes the Grinch Nog, made with cognac, egg nog and matcha powder, as well as the Mount Crumpit, made with shaved ice, bourbon and candy cane syrup.

Miracle on 5th St. at the Eleanor
307 W. Fifth St.
Now through Dec. 29

The annual pop-up bar is back in Austin after its first appearance last year. The “miracle” concept was developed in 2014 by Greg Boehm and Nico De Soto at New York City restaurant Mace and has expanded to 55 locations around the country.

The space has been decorated with scenes from a family living room on Christmas morning to a ski lodge, while the cocktails are all inspired by classic holiday drinks and dishes.

The bar is open most nights until Dec. 29.

Gibson Wonderland at Gibson Street Bar

Gibson Street Bar is bringing the holiday cheer for the first time this year with its first-ever event.

A live band, The Misfit Toys, will play Wednesday Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the bar, which has been covered in holiday decorations.

The cocktail menu includes the “Rum-pa-pa-pum” with spiced rum, cinnamon and brown sugar butter, clove and honey, as well as the Loco Cocoa made with chocolate-flavored vodka, chili liqueur, Mexican hot cocoa, whipped cream, chocolate, cayenne and cinnamon.

Sippin’ Santa at Nickel City
1133 E. 11th St.
Now-Dec. 31

Another national pop-up bar concept that’s rolling into Austin, “Sippin’ Santa” began in 2015 as a companion to “Miracle” in New York City.

Nickel City is one of 12 “Sippin’ Santa” locations around the country. The menu will feature tiki-holiday cocktails such as the Hawaiian Milk Punch, made with bourbon, cream, chai syrup, sarsaparilla, tobacco bitters and nutmeg.

While many of holiday bar concepts are here for just a limited time, this spot in the Crestview neighborhood brings the Christmasy charm 365 days a year.

The cocktail menu includes Reindeer Water, made with tequila, Cointreau, fresh-squeezed lime and Topo Chico.
