The new Denton County Government Center, which held its soft opening June 12, is now open in Frisco.

The $8 million, 24,000-square-foot center includes the county clerk’s office, the justice of the peace Precinct 2, the county constable Precinct 2, the county tax office and an office for the state representative. It also includes adult and juvenile probation offices.

“This building has been something that I planned on since I was elected,” said Hugh Coleman, Denton County commissioner for Precinct 1, which covers part of Frisco. “I always knew in my mind that someday we needed to serve this population, The Colony and Little Elm and Eastern Denton County. I really worked hard through my terms as commissioner to make sure that this area of the county was represented.”

The new center replaces another government center located in The Colony. That building was sold to the city of The Colony and will be turned into a city park, Coleman said.

“It’s going to be great for the community, it’s going to be very convenient. The [justice of the peace], the constable, all the important county offices are going to be there, and it’s a wonderful building,” Coleman said. The building is “much more improved than what’s in The Colony, and because it’s a larger facility, we’re going to be able to provide more services out of the offices that are there.”

The new center, which is at the southwest corner of Lebanon Road and FM 423, gives residents convenient access to county services, Coleman said.

“It’s going to be a lot closer. [FM] 423 through Frisco has been dramatically improved, access is going to be a lot easier,” Coleman said. “You’re going to be able to get a passport at the county clerk’s office in the future, you’re going to be able to pay your taxes, get your car tags at the county tax assessor [and] collector, get your birth certificate and other items at the county clerk’s office.”

The center held a grand opening and official ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 29.
