Joe Warner

Executive Editor

Joe Warner joined Community Impact Newspaper in 2016 as editor of the flagship Round Rock-Pflugerville-Hutto edition. After one year, he was promoted to managing editor of the Austin metro newspapers and is now executive editor.

Before coming to Texas, Joe spent his newspaper career at daily and weekly newspapers in Michigan, with most of the time in metro Detroit. He started his career writing about high school, college and professional sports, moved on to community journalism as editor of several weekly and daily papers, and spent time selling ads, designing pages and leading teams as general manager for nine years. Joe spent nine years on the board of directors for the Michigan Press Association, serving as president in 2016. He also worked on the boards and committees of several nonprofits, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. He has served on school and business committees in Round Rock and Pflugerville.

In his spare time, Joe enjoys traveling, especially to his home in Michigan a couple times a month to visit his daughters. Abby swims in college in Detroit, and Molly swims in high school in metro Detroit. An avid sports fan, Joe has attended most major sporting events—and while he has attended a Super Bowl—the Detroit Lions continue to be the only home team to let him down.

What makes Joe passionate about his career …

“I love teaching, and I love learning. Our work at Community Impact Newspaper gives us both. Our teams and the communities we serve are absolutely amazing, and I have always enjoyed getting to know the people of our cities. There are so many stories for us to tell, and I’m proud to be part of a profession that is more important than ever, and I’m proud to be at CI. I’ve never considered this a job; it has always been a career I love.”

The best advice he would give to a young professional …

“Learn from any failures; they can be the best way to find success. The high road always wins.”

A fun fact about Joe …
