According to unofficial total voting results on June 13, Jim Orr won Place 7 on the Collin College board of trustees with 2,103 votes, or 52.73 percent of the votes, compared with Collin Kennedy, who has 1,885 votes, or 47.27 percent of the votes.
"I'm feeling great at this moment. There are so many folks from all over this community that have helped me get to this point," Orr said about his win. "Ultimate goal is to meet the challenges of this growing county with businesses like Toyota coming in. We need to make sure that our goals align with the growth of the county, that will be the first thing on the agenda."
The election came to a runoff because no candidate gained more than 51 percent of the votes in the May 9 election.
Each board member serves at large for a 6-year term.

According to unofficial early runoff voting results on June 13, Jim Orr is leading the race for Place 7 on the Collin College board of trustees with 1,413 votes, or 51.63 percent of the votes, compared with Collin Kennedy, who has 1,324 votes, or 48.37 percent of the votes.
The election came to a runoff because no candidate gained more than 51 percent of the votes in the May 9 election.
Each board member serves at large for a 6-year term.

Kennedy has lived in Collin County for almost 11 years, and he and his wife have two daughters. If elected, Kennedy said he would prepare a long-term plan to grow the college and create additional partnerships with Collin County’s private business sector.
Orr and his wife have three children, one who attends Collin College. Orr has spent much of his career in technology business development. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business administration from Washington State University. Orr said his experience fits the requirements of a board member as education moves toward new learning models and new technology.
