Richardson plans to continue to operate its facilities on a modified schedule this weekend due to icy conditions expected to continue through Saturday afternoon. Removal of fallen trees at parks should get underway next week, with street sweepers expected to begin the process of removing sand from roadways Sunday night, according to the city.

The city is operating a warming center in the lobby of the Richardson Police Department that will remain open for the duration of the severe winter weather event.

Solid waste collection will resume as scheduled on Feb. 7. The collections that were canceled Feb. 3-4 will not be made up.

City facilities that will remain closed on Feb. 5 are Huffhines Tennis Center, the Bush Central Barkway dog park, the Richardson Senior Center and Sherrill Park Golf Course.

The Richardson Animal Shelter will be open for all services 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 5 and noon-5 p.m. on Feb. 6. The Richardson Gymnastics Center will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 5. The Heights Recreation Center will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 6. The Huffhines Recreation Center will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 5. The Richardson Public Library will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 5 before returning to normal hours on Feb. 6.

The Eisemann Center will resume normal hours of operation beginning Feb. 5.

City facilities scheduled to be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 4 include the Animal Shelter for emergencies only, City Hall, The Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations, Heights Recreation Center, Huffhines Recreation Center, the Municipal Court and the Richardson Public Library.

The city of Richardson has canceled and/or postponed a number of services in preparation for severe winter weather that is expected to hit the North Texas area Feb. 3-4.

All Feb. 4 solid waste collection has been canceled due to expected icy road conditions. Collections are delayed or suspended when conditions are such that vehicles cannot safely travel down alleys, and personnel would be at risk of slipping and getting injured during the collection process.

Additionally, hours of operation will be altered for several municipal facilities, including some closures on Feb. 3.

. Facility hours are subject to change based on conditions, according to a city press release.

The lobby of the Richardson Police Department has been designated as a warming center for those who lose power at their residences. Located at 200 N. Greenville Ave., the facility will be open 24 hours a day until it is no longer needed.

The Chinese New Year Festival scheduled for this weekend has been postponed one week to Feb. 12 due to the expected severe winter weather. The event will still be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Richardson Core District's DFW Chinatown neighborhood located at 400 N. Greenville Ave.


All Feb. 3-4 due dates at the municipal court have been extended to 5 p.m. Feb. 7. All dockets and hearings are being rescheduled to Feb. 10 at the same docket time. Residents may call the court to confirm the status of their case, though the city press release states it recommends the use of the court’s online options.

Service on the Galatyn Park Station Shuttle is suspended Feb. 3.

Decisions on service and operations for Feb. 4 will be made on Feb. 3.
