Richardson officials plan to open Santa’s Village for one more weekend Dec. 17 at Huffhines Park from 6-9 p.m. According to a press release, the decision to reopen the Village was made after rain and wet grounds forced the city to close the event Dec. 10-11.

Santa's Village is a free nightly holiday event open to the public during the holiday season. The celebration includes photos with Santa, musical performances and an annual opening night Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Following the Dec. 17 event, the village will be open to stroll through and view 9 a.m.-9 p.m. through Dec. 25.

First opened in 1989, Santa’s Village was moved from its traditional location in the fountain plaza adjacent to City Hall because of the Aug. 22 City Hall fire.

Admission and parking for the event are free. Santa’s Village is located on the northeast side of Huffhines Park at 1500 Apollo Road. The main parking lot can be accessed from Apollo Road, but alternative parking is available at the soccer fields and outside Huffhines Recreation Center at 200 N. Plano Road.

Richardson officials have utilized the city-owned park for other temporary renovation and relocation projects. It is also the site of the proposed permanent home for the historic Miss Belle’s House.
