Plano officials said road conditions have improved throughout Feb. 24, but areas of black ice around the city continue to create hazardous driving and walking conditions. Crews from the city's public works department will work overnight to spread additional sand on overpasses and parking lots for emergency responders and the Plano Overnight Warming Station.

Located at the Plano Salvation Army headquarters at 3528 E. 14th St., the Plano Overnight Warming station is open for daytime and overnight guests. The warming station will be available through Feb. 25, according to a city release.

Regional weather officials are predicting warmer temperatures to return around midday Feb. 25 and have stated the ice should begin melting by then. The Dallas-Fort Worth forecast shows temperatures should reach the high 40s by the afternoon of Feb. 25.

Plano canceled trash collection for Feb. 24, but city staff said the public works department will assess alley conditions early in the morning Feb. 25 and then notify the public as soon as possible as to whether trash and recycling collections will resume. Residents who have not had trash and recycling collected are advised to leave their carts at the collection point, according to a city release.


Plano staff previously said recycling carts were expected to be serviced on Feb. 25 and possibly into Feb. 26.

City operations are expected to largely got back to normal on Feb. 25, according to a city release. Plano recreation centers are scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Feb. 25, and Plano Public Library locations will be open for normal hours.

City facilities, such as the Adrian Magallanes Day Labor Center, Plano Parks & Recreation facilities, Texas Pure Products and Plano Public Library locations were all closed Feb. 24. The Plano Animal Shelter was closed for adoption services but open for owners needing to claim lost pets as staff are on-site caring for the animals at the shelter. Plano's water payment window was closed Feb. 24, though payments could be made by phone at 972-941-7105 or online at www.plano.gov/bills.

Dockets for Feb. 24-25 at the Plano Municipal Court were rescheduled. Appearance dates for a citation or summons due Feb. 24-25 were extended until March 4, according to the city release.


According to a Feb. 24 release, Dallas Area Rapid Transit will offer limited services through Feb. 25 and will continue to monitor the weather conditions with the goal of returning to regular service on Feb. 26.

Additionally, a Plano Town Hall previously scheduled for Feb. 24 has been postponed until March 17.
