Ambit Energy will lay off 92 employees from a call center located in Plano by Nov. 19, according to a report from the Texas Workforce Commission.

The commission received notice of the layoffs from the Dallas-based company Sept. 19, according to the report.

“The decision to move an increased percentage of our call volume away from our Plano center was made to ensure that Ambit is leaner and better prepared to compete in the highly competitive energy markets,” Ambit energy CEO Jere Thompson Jr. said in a statement. "We know that many good people are affected, and we are grateful for their many contributions. Those impacted were offered severance packages based on job level and years of service. The many employees who remain at our Plano call center will focus on providing excellent service to our highest value customers. We are excited about the future, and while change is hard, it is also essential."

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that employees received notice of the layoffs Sept. 19. In fact, the Texas Workforce Commission received notice of the layoffs Sept. 19.
