The Plano Event Center completed its $2.5 million renovation project June 14, and with the changes comes a new name and brand.

Originally named the Plano Centre, the Plano Event Center changed its name to avoid spelling confusion among clients as well as to rebrand the 27-year-old event destination facility.

Some of the renovations include fresh interior and exterior paint, new carpeting and furniture, renovated restrooms, new chandeliers throughout the building and a new sound system in the Windhaven Ballroom.

There has also been discussion among city officials about adding a hotel on-site.

City spokesperson Millerann Moya told Community Impact Newspaper the city had hired a broker to determine if there were any hotels interested in building on the property. Those talks were then shelved indefinitely while Envision Oak Point, a plan to redevelop the Oak Point area, is underway.

The Plano Event Center caters to clients for a variety of events, including leisure shows and corporate gatherings. With reservations booked far in advance, Moya is optimistic the renovations will continue to attract new business.

“Right now, our renovation has really just become complete within the last few weeks, and we book events months to a year in advance,” Moya said. “But it’s definitely giving our team something to tout right now.”

With another $2 million allocated to rebuilding the parking lot in 2018, as well as new landscaping, the Plano Event Center has yet to complete all of its renovations.
