Spectators watched as a 178-foot-high city water tower in Plano was brought down by a demolition team Monday morning at SH 121 and Leadership Drive. Crews from Iseler Demolition of Romeo, Michigan, used torches to cut the metal at the base of the tower, tipping it over like a large tree.

The 30-year-old tower was taken down to make room for Legacy West. The 240-acre mixed-use development is the future home to Toyota North America, Fedex Office and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company campuses, as well as shops, restaurants, residential living, a high-rise hotel and other businesses.
