Five Plano City Council races—including one for the Place 6 mayor’s seat—will be on the ballot as the city prepares for its next round of municipal elections in May.
The filing period for those interested in running for a seat on Plano City Council opened Jan. 13 and will remain open until Feb. 12 for Places 2, 4, 6 and 8. Place 7 will also be on the May 1 ballot as a special election, with filing opening Feb. 9.
The candidate list below will be updated regularly through the filing deadline.
John Muns, former chair of the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission, has filed to run for mayor. The seat is currently held by Mayor Harry LaRosiliere, who is serving his second and final term. Muns had served as chair of Plano's zoning body since 2015.
Former Place 7 Council Member Lily Bao has also filed to run for mayor. Bao began serving as a council member in 2019 before resigning Jan. 12 in order to join the race for mayor.
No other candidates running for Place 6 have filed as of Feb. 10.
Steve Lavine has filed to run for Place 2. As of Feb. 10, no other candidates have filed to run for the seat, although Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Anthony Ricciardelli confirmed to Community Impact Newspaper he plans to run for re-election.
Mayor Pro Tem Kayci Prince has filed to run again for Place 4. Prince has served on council since 2017. Nassat Parveen has filed to challenge the incumbent, as has Vidal Quintanilla. As of Feb. 10, no other candidates have filed for this seat.
Place 8 Council Member Rick Smith has filed for re-election, and Elisa Klein has filed to run against the incumbent. Smith has served on council since 2017. No other candidates have filed for Place 8 as of Feb. 10.
Plano City Council has eight seats. Candidates running for Places 1-4 must reside in the district in which they are running, though all council members are elected on an at-large basis. Plano council members are limited to two four-year terms. Plano mayors may serve a maximum of two four-year terms even after serving as a council member.
Prospective candidates are required to file their application, nomination form and a petition with a minimum of 139 signatures for a place on the ballot, according to city of Plano filing information. For more information on candidates or instructions on how to file, visit this site.
