In a regular meeting Oct. 10 the Plano City Council approved a sizable consent agenda and held several public hearings, including a few items aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure in the downtown and Legacy West areas.

Here is a recap of the meeting and its outcomes:

Consent agenda items:

  • Approval to award $118,000 to consultant and contractor Freese and Nichols for a downtown wastewater improvement project. This community investment project will add wastewater lines to the city’s existing system and enhance the system’s ability to serve new developments in the downtown area.

  • Approval to allocate $1.2 million to city’s arts and events grants program for fiscal year 2016-17. The grant is funded by hotel/motel tax revenues.

  • Approval to remove two school zones along Carmel Drive. The collector street, which runs from Custer Road to Westwood Drive, has two short school zones at either end. The city’s transportation engineering staff determined neither are warranted.

Public hearings:

  • A resolution to allocate a portion of Hoblitzelle Park to serve as permanent sanitary sewer easements for capacity improvements to the main located within the park. (Approved 7-0)

  • Staff request to allocate portions of Legacy Trail for easements to improve the sewer line capacity to the Legacy West area. (Approved 7-0)

  • Rezoning request for 8.6 acres of land at the northwest corner of Plano Parkway and Alma Drive to allow for the construction of Animal Eye Specialists, a veterinary clinic that specializes in ophthalmology. The business has a practice in Richardson at 401 W. President George Bush Highway. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the request in a 5-2 vote at a Sept. 19 meeting. (Approved 7-0)
