It is estimated that one out of every eight U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer, according to breastcancer.org. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Dallas area is bustling with races, events and commemorations to help fund the unending research and fight for the lives of those fighting breast cancer.

Whether you want to contribute with athleticism, creativity or just your pocketbook, here is your guide to thinking pink in the month of October.

Oct. 12
Night at the Bar fundraiser
The Bar Method Plano hosts a donation-based, poolside pop-up excerise class at 5:45 p.m. followed by a happy hour reception in the outdoor terrace at NYLO Plano at Legacy, 8201 Preston Road. Proceeds from the event benefit Susan G. Komen of North Texas. 972-464-2483. www.plano.barmethod.com

Oct. 13
9Round Kick to Fight Breast Cancer
With locations in Frisco and Plano, 9Round Fitness kickboxing studios host its fifth annual Kick to Fight Breast Cancer event from 5 a.m.-8 p.m. Each year, participating 9Round locations donate one cent for every kick to support breast cancer research. The studio hopes to help raise 20 million kicks companywide. The event is open to the public. www.9round.com

Oct. 15
Komen Dallas Race for the Cure
Join thousands survivors and supporters nationwide for this annual event to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The organization funds a variety of breast cancer programs, including free mammograms and clinical breast exams for uninsured and underserved patients, patient navigators who help patients overcome barriers to care and free transportation for patients to treatment. This year’s race takes place at NorthPark Center, 8687 N. Central Expressway, Dallas. On-site registration begins at 6 a.m. with the 5K beginning at 7:15 a.m. $40 (adults), $20 (children ages 12 and younger).

Making Strides of North Texas 5K

Nov. 3-5 and 4-6
Susan G. Komen 3-Day
Sign up and start getting your team together now to unite with thousands of participants and their supporters in one of these 3-day walks to support Komen research and programs. Both 3-day events will begin this year at Collin Creek Mall, 811 N. Central Expressway, Plano, and culminate with a closing ceremony at Fair Park in Dallas. Participants will walk through the shaded neighborhoods and parks of Dallas and its suburbs, and will spend two nights at the Komen 3‑day camp bonding with fellow walkers. $70 (individual). 800-996-3329. www.the3day.org/
