Incumbent Republican Sam Johnson won overwhelmingly with 81.99 percent of the vote over Green Party candidate Paul Blair for the U.S. Representative District 3 seat.

Johnson has held the representative post since 1991. He is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, serving as the chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee and sits on the Health Subcommittee. He was also appointed to the Joint Committee on Taxation.

The Third District of Texas includes most of Collin County, including all or parts of the cities of Allen, Anna, Blue Ridge, Dallas, Fairview, Frisco, Lavon, Lowry Crossing, Lucas, McKinney, Melissa, Murphy, New Hope, Parker, Plano, Princeton, Prosper, Richardson, St. Paul, Wylie and portions of unincorporated land in Collin County.
