A March 3 traffic switch will allow only northbound traffic flow on 5th Street between Main and Hickory for the next three to six months, according to city officials.

During this phase of construction, 5th Street will remain one lane and operate as a one-way street in the northbound direction between Hickory and Main Street.

Traffic needing to travel south in the area should use South County Road and Hickory Street as alternate routes to 5th Street/Parkwood Boulevard.

Detour signs are posted.

Traffic on Elm Street and Pecan Street will not be able to cross 5th Street.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone.

The 5th Street improvement project consists of reconstructing the road between Hickory and Main and replacing some underground utilities. 5th Street will be a two-lane concrete road with parking spaces on each side and a continuous sidewalk along 5th Street and Parkwood Boulevard that will run from Main Street to Stonebrook Parkway.

Construction is expected to be complete by June.
