The latest rendition of Grapevine's new public safety building got an informal go-ahead at a City Council workshop, after an earlier effort failed.

Brinkley Sargent Architects initially had presented an ultra-modern building of glass and steel that was shot down during a work session earlier this year. Mayor William D. Tate said at the time that the building would be wonderful if it were in Dallas.

The new look, much more traditional with brick facades and copper roofing, was presented at a Dec. 3 council workshop.

Representatives of the architectural firm worked through a series of slides, starting with the first version and moving through different stages of decision-making that resulted in the new look.

The next step will be official approval at a City Council meeting.

The building, which will include police and the municipal court, will be on 6 acres on Ira E. Woods.

Voters approved a $38.6 million general obligation bond issue for the building in November 2012.
